FOUNDER OF AOCI

— Jasmine Yiping Ni

Jasmine Yiping Ni

Jasmine Yiping Ni

Where Art Meets Martial Wisdom · A Life Woven Through Tai Chi

Early Life & Foundations

Jasmine Yiping Ni was born into a traditional Chinese medical family, immersed from childhood in the practices of breathwork, meridian theory, Qigong, and holistic healing. At the age of seven, she began studying medical and Qigong under her father’s guidance. By eight, she entered formal martial arts training—long fist, southern fist, broadsword, straight sword, staff, nine-section whip, and Liuhe Zhuang—forming a solid foundation in both external and internal martial traditions.

Yet even as she grew within the world of martial arts and traditional medicine, her heart remained irresistibly drawn to the arts. At nine, she began learning piano and dance. Music’s rhythm and dance’s flowing movement revealed to her a new language of life. Literature, aesthetics, and art soon became essential nourishment for her spirit.

Artistic Career

At 18, Jasmine was specially selected and admitted into a professional performing arts troupe.. Her performance won several awards: first prize in the duet dance category at the "Sichuan-Tibet Romance" performance festival; first prize in a large-scale gala celebrating Hong Kong’s return to China; and a silver medal in a televised talent competition. During her years in the arts troupe, she received formal training in dance, music, stagecraft, and performance, and she was selected to study at Qinghai Arts College and Sichuan Administrative Institute, completing her university education.

She later joined Sichuan Satellite TV as a host and program producer, where her work won multiple national awards for long-form documentary and news programming. After 7 years, she was admitted to the Communication University of China to pursue directing and broadcasting. She then entered China Central Television (CCTV), where she spent ten years as a director, chief editor, and executive producer. Her refined on-camera presence, literary sensibility, creative vision, and stage artistry continued to flourish throughout her career in the arts.

Transformation & Integration

In 2017, Jasmine immigrated to the Research Triangle region of North Carolina and founded the American Oriental Culture Institute. In this peaceful setting, she began reflecting on the path she had walked—the roots of martial arts, the soul of dance, the breath of traditional medicine, the beauty of art, and the weight and lightness of life experience. In Tai Chi, she found all of these converging into one.

Thus, Ping | Peaceful Tai Chi & Dance was born—a fusion and elevation of everything she had lived and learned.

Tai Chi Lineage & Martial Heritage

Jasmine inherits the orthodox system of 20th-century Tai Chi grandmaster Li Jingwu. Grandmaster Li was a true lineage holder of Chen-style, Yang-style, and Wu-style Tai Chi, mastering their innermost principles and weaving them into the uniquely integrated system known as Jingwu Tai Chi. His art combined the essence of the three classical Tai Chi lineages comes together in a balanced and harmonious way:

• Yang-style embodies upright, centered structure with expansive, open, and dignified body lines.

• Chen-style carries its signature silk-like, continuous spiraling energy, blending coiled softness with explosive internal power.

• Wu-style emphasizes a full, resonant sense of internal qi and resilient strength, expressed through a compact frame and exceptionally precise movements.

Li Jingwu was also one of the principal creators of the 24-Form Tai Chi, the most widely practiced Tai Chi form in the world today.

Carrying this profound lineage, Jasmine not only embodies the traditional essence of these three styles but also merges them with the depth of her artistic life. Her Tai Chi carries both martial strength and artistic resonance—a true expression of “martial arts infused with art, and art enriched by martial spirit.”

Jasmine is also the 16th-generation inheritor of the Wudang Sanfeng lineage and the first-generation inheritor of Wudang Xingyun Sword. She integrates the Wudang principles of body–sword–qi unity and the flowing, cloud-like quality of Wudang swordsmanship into her Tai Chi sword teaching, allowing students to experience both the grounded stillness of inner strength and the airy elegance of Daoist movement.

Mission & Vision

Jasmine’s vision extends far beyond teaching Tai Chi as a martial form. She hopes to weave together the power of Chinese martial arts, the fluid spirit of Wudang sword, and the aesthetic grace of Eastern dance into a living art that nourishes modern life.

She believes Tai Chi can transcend technique and become a force of healing for the body and mind, a language that connects cultures, and a pathway through which the world rediscovers the beauty of the East.

Her mission is to help people everywhere encounter strength, peace, and a more balanced and complete version of themselves through Tai Chi.
